In 2025, all eyes are on Brussels. For the first time in its history, the European Union is co-creating a Strategy on Intergenerational Fairness, a visionary roadmap to ensure today’s decisions do not compromise the rights and well-being of future generations. This collaborative effort, led by the Joint Research Centre (JRC), is more than policy development, it is a democratic innovation.
At the heart of this process are over 100 civil society representatives, including the Future Generations Initiative (FGI), working across 14 thematic subgroups to define what fairness between generations should look like and how we get there.
To support this process, our coalition is developing a series of Building Blocks: concise digests of key arguments and proposals we believe must be reflected in the final strategy.
In the coming weeks, we will publish these one by one, offering a brief overview of the main pillars guiding our coalition’s thinking and contributions to this co-creation process.
